The afternoon soreness, persistent ankle swelling, and bulging purple veins are signs of varicose veins caused by faulty venous valves that impair blood return. Blood pools in the legs, leading to chronic tissue hypoxia, which further damages vessel walls. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivers oxygen directly to ischemic deep tissues, helps form new collateral circulation, reduces leg swelling, and supports varicose vein treatment.

What are Varicose Veins?
The venous system of the lower limbs is responsible for returning blood from the feet to the heart. Along this return path are many structures called venous valves, which act as one-way gates ensuring that blood flows only upward and does not flow back down to the feet.
When these valves gradually loosen or fail to close tightly due to genetics, age, pregnancy, prolonged standing, or prolonged sitting, blood flows backward. The pooled blood accumulates in the superficial veins of the calves, stretching the vessel walls wider and more twisted, eventually bulging out from the skin surface. This is varicose veins. The essence is not a problem with the blood vessels themselves, but an obstacle to blood return.
Its early symptoms are quite deceptive. Many people only feel heavy, swollen legs that are worse in the afternoon than in the morning, and their ankles swell after walking for extended periods. These symptoms significantly relieve after a night’s rest with legs elevated, and many may not take them seriously.
However, as the condition progresses, the problems become increasingly severe. The skin begins to change color, from normal skin tone to dark red and purplish-brown. This is hemosiderin deposition caused by chronic blood stasis. The skin becomes thin and brittle, easily breaking with the slightest bump, and once broken, it heals with great difficulty, forming so-called venous ulcers. In more severe cases, the pooled blood can also form blood clots, triggering localized redness, swelling, heat, and pain in thrombophlebitis.
Who are the high-risk groups? People who need to stand for long periods, including teachers, nurses, cashiers, and sales associates. People who need to sit still for long periods, including programmers, drivers, and office workers. Pregnant women are a high-risk group because the enlarged uterus compresses the inferior vena cava. Middle-aged and elderly people are a high-risk group because blood vessel walls and valves naturally age over time. Obese people are also a high-risk group because excessive abdominal pressure obstructs blood return from the lower limbs.
Regardless of whether surgery is performed or compression stockings are worn, the long-term hypoxic state of the lower limb tissues is the underlying cause of the continuous progression of varicose veins, postoperative recurrence, and non-healing ulcers. Conventional treatments struggle to address this point.
How Does a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Treat Varicose Veins?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy cannot cure already severely varicose and deformed veins. However, HBOT can improve tissue condition before surgery, accelerate recovery after surgery, and serve as long-term management for those who cannot undergo or are unsuitable for surgery, assisting in home rehabilitation management of varicose veins.

Consider a patient with moderate lower limb varicose veins, accompanied by recurrent calf soreness and mild edema. They choose a home hyperbaric oxygen chamber, using it at 1.5 ATA for 60 minutes daily for 8 consecutive weeks. 1.5 ATA can significantly increase tissue oxygen partial pressure without causing significant ear discomfort or risk of oxygen toxicity, making it very suitable for long-term home management.
HBOT directly delivers oxygen to ischemic deep tissues
Under normal atmospheric pressure, oxygen in the blood is mainly transported by hemoglobin, with only a small amount dissolved in plasma. Under hyperbaric conditions, the amount of physically dissolved oxygen increases significantly. This dissolved oxygen does not require hemoglobin assistance and can diffuse directly into tissues that have been in a chronic hypoxic state due to poor blood flow and sparse capillary networks.
HBOT stimulates new blood vessel growth and establishes collateral circulation
The fundamental problem with varicose veins is impaired blood return. By upregulating the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, HBOT stimulates the growth of new capillaries in ischemic tissues. These new blood vessels can gradually form bypass channels, circumventing those veins that have lost function and helping pooled blood find new return paths.
HBOT reduces tissue edema and improves nutrient supply
Edema caused by varicose veins is essentially fluid leaking from blood vessels into the interstitial space due to elevated venous pressure. HBOT helps tissues expel excess fluid through various pathways, including vasoconstriction, reducing capillary permeability, and promoting lymphatic return, significantly improving the sensation of heaviness and soreness in the legs.
HBOT promotes venous ulcer healing
Chronic ulcers caused by long-term venous stasis often fail to heal for months or even years. By increasing local oxygen partial pressure at the wound site, HBOT promotes fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and epithelial migration, restarting the healing process in stagnant wounds.

Why is a Home Hyperbaric Chamber Suitable for Long-term Management of Varicose Veins?
Patients with varicose veins require long-term, regular adjunctive treatment. The transportation costs, time costs, and energy consumption of scheduling and waiting at traditional medical hyperbaric chambers are a significant burden for many middle-aged and elderly patients with limited mobility. Additionally, many elderly patients have psychological resistance to the hospital environment. The emergence of home hyperbaric chambers provides a feasible solution to these problems.
Kingshare has its own factory covering over 2,000 square meters, with all aspects from chamber materials and structural design to the core control system independently developed and produced. Product quality is controllable, with every procedure completed under factory supervision. Pricing is advantageous, eliminating markups from intermediate links. For over a decade, our products have been sold both domestically and internationally. This user trust has been built through long-term accumulation.
The chamber is equipped with a negative oxygen ion generation device, and the negative ion concentration inside the chamber is much higher than in ordinary indoor air. This high negative ion environment helps alleviate the anxiety commonly experienced by patients with chronic diseases and enhances comfort during use. The chamber is also equipped with a BIBS breathing system, ensuring that every breath the user takes is high-purity oxygen, while exhaled carbon dioxide is expelled outside the chamber without circulating inside.

Real Case: A Nurse’s Leg Improvement
Lisa worked in a hospital for nearly three decades. Due to prolonged standing and increasing age, her legs began showing noticeable discomfort in her forties: heavy, sore legs in the afternoon, frequent ankle swelling, and noticeable bulging vessels on the inner calves. She consulted a doctor, who assessed that her deep venous system function was acceptable, but her superficial venous valve function was severely insufficient. Surgery was an option, but the postoperative recovery period was too long to manage with her work intensity. On a colleague’s recommendation, Lisa decided to try a home hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
Week 1: Daily 1.5 ATA, 60 minutes. No noticeable sensation in the first few days. Around day five, she noticed some reduction in the afternoon leg heaviness.
Week 4: Ankle swelling noticeably reduced. New granulation tissue began to appear at the edges of the long-standing non-healing skin lesion on her right calf.
Week 8: Leg heaviness essentially disappeared. The frequency of nighttime calf cramps decreased from nearly every night to occasional. The chronic ulcer on her right calf completely closed.
Week 12: During follow-up, her doctor noted noticeable improvement in the nutritional status of her calf skin. Subcutaneous edema had essentially resolved, and the degree of superficial venous dilation had decreased.
In the management of varicose veins, hyperbaric oxygen does not replace conventional treatment but makes conventional treatment more effective by improving the hypoxic state of tissues and creating better conditions for vascular health. Varicose veins are the body’s direct way of telling you: blood return is obstructed, tissues are hypoxic, and help is needed. One hour a day, lying down in the Shell Cabin, letting oxygen slowly permeate into those ischemic deep tissues, letting new little blood vessels grow bit by bit, and letting your swollen legs regain their original lightness.
