Waking up in the morning feeling an invisible stone pressing on the chest; climbing two flights of stairs leaving the heart racing and legs weak; finishing a meal while gasping for breath. The chronic hypoxia caused by COPD makes every breath feel like breathing through thick gauze—less and less oxygen gets in, and the body’s organs remain in a state of semi-starvation year-round.Hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy bypasses impaired lung ventilation function, delivering high-concentration oxygen directly to every hypoxic tissue cell in the body, restarting pulmonary rehabilitation at the cellular level.

What is COPD?
COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a common chronic airway disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation. A chronic inflammatory fire never extinguishes in the respiratory tract, day after day burning the airway walls and alveolar tissue. The main culprits of this fire are long-term inhalation of harmful particles such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, and occupational dust, which activate abnormal inflammatory responses in the lungs, leading to a series of structural damages: thickening of airway walls, narrowing of the lumen, and difficulty in expelling secretions; rupture of alveolar walls, fusion into large bullae, loss of elasticity, and gas trapping inside the lungs that cannot be fully exhaled—this is the root cause of irreversible airflow limitation.

In early COPD, patients may only have morning cough with a small amount of white sputum, often dismissed as a smoker’s daily routine. In the progressive stage, shortness of breath appears after activity—initially after climbing stairs or walking quickly, later developing into difficulty breathing even when walking on level ground. In the advanced stage, dyspnea at rest, cyanosis, barrel chest, and even severe complications such as respiratory failure and cor pulmonale occur. Acute exacerbations are like time bombs; a simple common cold can trigger a sharp deterioration in respiratory function, requiring emergency hospitalization or even ventilator support.

The hypoxic harm of COPD extends far beyond the lungs. Chronic hypoxemia forces the heart to work harder, leading to pulmonary hypertension, right ventricular hypertrophy, and eventually cor pulmonale. The brain suffers chronic oxygen deprivation, often resulting in inattention, memory decline, and low mood. Muscles atrophy due to hypoxia, causing limb weakness and weight loss. Furthermore, COPD is closely associated with several comorbidities such as essential hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and depression, and the pathological basis of these comorbidities is precisely chronic hypoxia.
How Does a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Treat COPD?
Hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy involves breathing high-concentration oxygen in an environment with pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. Its core principle is not to directly dilate bronchi, but rather to physically significantly increase oxygen partial pressure in the blood and lung tissues, producing a series of positive effects targeting the core pathological basis of COPD: chronic airway inflammation, tissue hypoxia, oxidative stress, and respiratory muscle fatigue.

Consider a stable COPD patient at GOLD stage 2-3 who, despite standard use of inhaled medications and home oxygen therapy, still feels limited exercise tolerance and wishes to further improve their condition and reduce the risk of acute exacerbations. After comprehensive evaluation by a pulmonologist, a decision is made to introduce a home hyperbaric oxygen chamber for adjunctive rehabilitation alongside standard treatment. The protocol involves using a mild pressure of 1.5 ATA, with sessions once daily or every other day, each lasting 60 minutes, with an 8-week course for observation and assessment.
Significantly reducing airway inflammation and suppressing the spread of the inflammatory fire
The essence of COPD is chronic inflammation. Hyperbaric oxygen has been shown to inhibit the release of various pro-inflammatory cytokines, reduce the infiltration of inflammatory cells such as neutrophils into the airways, decrease mucus secretion, and improve airway patency.
Improving pulmonary microcirculation and oxygen supply, creating conditions for repair
COPD patients have destruction of the pulmonary capillary bed and ventilation-perfusion mismatch, leading to chronic local tissue hypoxia. Hyperbaric oxygen significantly increases the content of physically dissolved oxygen in the blood, allowing oxygen to diffuse more effectively into poorly ventilated alveolar regions, improving the oxygenation state of lung tissue, increasing arterial oxygen partial pressure, and reducing carbon dioxide retention.
Enhancing antioxidant defense capacity and reducing oxidative stress damage
Oxidative stress levels are significantly elevated in COPD patients, and excess free radicals further damage lung tissue. Hyperbaric oxygen upregulates the activity of endogenous antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduces MDA levels, and attenuates oxidative stress attacks on lung cells.
Regulating immune function and enhancing pulmonary defense
COPD patients often have immune dysfunction, with decreased numbers of immune cells such as CD3⁺ and CD4⁺. After HBOT, the values of CD3⁺, CD4⁺, and CD4⁺/CD8⁺ significantly increase, which helps enhance the immune surveillance and defense capacity of the lungs and reduce the occurrence of acute exacerbations.
Improving respiratory muscle function and relieving fatigue
Long-term excessive respiratory workload leads to fatigue and weakness of the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles. By improving oxygen supply and energy metabolism in muscle tissue, hyperbaric oxygen helps alleviate respiratory muscle fatigue, enhance their contractile efficiency, and thus reduce the sensation of dyspnea.

Home Hyperbaric Chamber: A Home Pulmonary Rehabilitation Station
As an original factory with over a decade of experience in hyperbaric oxygen chamber production, Kingshare meets different disease stages and individual needs. From rigid chambers to soft chambers, pressure ranges from 1.3 to 2.0 ATA can be customized. Our products are sold both domestically and internationally, with guaranteed quality and pricing, allowing more COPD patients to access cutting-edge respiratory rehabilitation adjunctive technology at a reasonable cost.

Compared with traditional medical hyperbaric chambers, Kingshare home hyperbaric chambers offer significant advantages:
More convenient home daily management: No need to travel to and from the hospital. After completing daily oxygen inhalation and medication, patients can enter the chamber for deep conditioning at any time. For elderly patients with limited mobility, reducing unnecessary travel is itself a form of protection.
High concentration of negative ions inside the chamber: High-concentration negative ion air helps purify the cabin environment, stabilize mood, and alleviate anxiety, and emotional stability is crucial for regulating breathing frequency and depth. Negative ions also adsorb suspended particles, creating a healthier breathing environment.
Water circulation heating and humidification: The uniformly gentle water circulation system provides a warm and comfortable sensory environment. Warm, moist air helps relieve airway spasm and avoids irritation of sensitive airways by dry, cold air.
BIBS system improves oxygen inhalation efficiency: The efficient Built-in Breathing System ensures that oxygen is inhaled at the optimal concentration, maximizing treatment effects and making every conditioning session efficient and effective.
Customizable red light bed: The red light bed can be customized. Red light photobiomodulation works synergistically with hyperbaric oxygen to further improve microcirculation and promote repair and regeneration of damaged alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cells.
Craftsmanship, Shell Cabin appearance: Our Shell Cabin resembles a Hobbit house, like a fairytale cottage, healing to the heart. The cute, rounded appearance breaks the traditional rectangular shape of oxygen chambers. The interior is warm and bright, effectively alleviating anxiety about enclosed spaces, bridging the distance between the device and the patient, making every conditioning session a pleasant experience of relaxation, and naturally improving treatment outcomes.

Real Case: The Journey Back to Deep Breathing
William, a 69-year-old retired electrician from the UK, had a 45-year smoking history and had been diagnosed with COPD for 12 years. His condition worsened year by year, from initially getting out of breath climbing stairs to having to stop for a rest after walking 200 meters on level ground. He was hospitalized 2-3 times per year for acute exacerbations, and long-term home oxygen therapy kept him with nasal prongs inserted most of the day. After evaluation by his doctor, he decided to try hyperbaric oxygen as an adjunctive rehabilitation method.
First month of conditioning: William underwent 4 conditioning sessions per week (1.5 ATA, 60 minutes each). After two weeks, his most noticeable change was a reduction in morning coughing and sputum production. After three months, his lung function had improved, and he began accompanying his grandson on walks again. After six months, he had developed the habit of conditioning 2-3 times per week, and his daily home oxygen therapy duration was reduced from 16 hours to 12 hours.
The chains of COPD bind the right to breathe freely and the ability to move. Hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy, by enhancing the body’s most fundamental level of oxygenation, sends calming signals to the inflamed airways, delivers energy support to the fatigued respiratory muscles, and provides life-giving nourishment to the hypoxic alveoli.
