The starting point of COPD may be just a cigarette, a coal fire, or a dusty job. It comes silently, blocking the airways and destroying the alveoli bit by bit, until you find that climbing a single flight of stairs feels like running a marathon—by then, your lung function has already declined significantly. Conventional treatments struggle to reverse already damaged lung function or address the deeper issue of microcirculatory hypoxia. The hyperbaric oxygen chamber provides deep oxygenation, suppresses chronic lung inflammation, enhances immunity, and treats COPD.

What is COPD?
COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation. It does not come and go quickly like a cold. It is a slow, irreversible process—lung function declines gradually, breathing becomes more difficult day by day, until even sitting still becomes a torment. Currently, there are over 400 million COPD patients worldwide, with 2.75 million deaths annually—an average of 2.5 people dying every minute.
The essence of COPD is that the lungs cannot deliver enough oxygen into the blood. Alveoli are destroyed, airways are blocked, oxygen cannot enter, and carbon dioxide cannot exit. The brain becomes sluggish due to hypoxia, the heart races due to hypoxia, and muscles weaken after just a few steps due to hypoxia. Conventional oxygen therapy can alleviate some of these issues, but for moderate to severe patients, it is far from sufficient. The hyperbaric oxygen chamber uses the dual advantages of pressure and concentration to force oxygen into the oxygen-starved body.
Our lungs are like an upside-down tree. The trachea is the trunk, branching into bronchi, then into bronchioles, ending in hundreds of millions of alveoli. An adult’s alveoli, if spread out, cover an area roughly the size of a tennis court. This vast area exists for one purpose: to allow oxygen to rapidly enter the blood and expel carbon dioxide.
Long-term inhalation of tobacco smoke, air pollutants, and occupational dust keeps the airways and alveoli in a state of chronic inflammation. The airway walls thicken, the lumen narrows; alveolar walls are destroyed, and elastic recoil decreases. Inhalation becomes difficult, exhalation even more so. Air becomes trapped in the lungs, unable to exit, and fresh air cannot enter.
What does COPD do to a person’s life? The most obvious symptom is breathlessness. At first, it occurs only when climbing stairs or walking quickly. In later stages, even dressing and washing cause breathlessness. You try desperately to inhale, but the air simply cannot reach where it needs to go. Next is coughing and phlegm—chronic coughing and sputum production, especially severe in the morning. Many people do not take it seriously, and by the time they realize something is wrong, their lung function has already declined significantly.
This is not a disease exclusive to the elderly. Although people over 40 are the main affected group, young people who smoke long-term or are chronically exposed to dusty environments are also at risk. Approximately 70% of COPD patients have not yet been diagnosed. They live with worsening lung capacity, unaware that they are being targeted by a silent killer.
How Does a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Treat COPD?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for COPD is not simply breathing more oxygen, but using the power of physics to break through the limits of conventional oxygen therapy.
Consider a stable COPD patient who can walk on level ground without much difficulty but becomes severely breathless on slopes and has long relied on home oxygen therapy. After evaluation by a doctor, he begins using a home hyperbaric oxygen chamber at 1.5 ATA for 60 minutes daily.
HBOT forces oxygen directly into the blood
In conventional oxygen therapy, oxygen is mainly transported by hemoglobin, with very little directly dissolved in the blood. But in a hyperbaric environment of 1.5 ATA, the amount of physically dissolved oxygen can increase several-fold or even more than tenfold. This dissolved oxygen in the plasma does not need to rely on hemoglobin and can flow with the blood to all parts of the body, including those lung regions obstructed by sputum and where gas exchange is impaired.
HBOT suppresses chronic inflammation
The essence of COPD is chronic inflammation of the airways and lung tissue. HBOT combined with conventional drug therapy can significantly reduce serum levels of inflammatory markers in COPD patients, including key indicators such as interleukin-8 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha.
HBOT enhances immune function
Due to long-term hypoxia and chronic consumption, COPD patients often have low immunity and are prone to recurrent infections. Research shows that after HBOT, the proportion of immune cells such as CD3+ and CD4+ increases significantly, and immune function is enhanced, which is crucial for preventing acute exacerbations.
HBOT reduces oxidative stress
Another core mechanism of COPD is oxidative stress—excessive free radicals in the body attack lung tissue. Combined HBOT can significantly reduce oxidative stress markers in lung tissue and enhance antioxidant capacity, thereby slowing the decline of lung function.
HBOT improves blood gas indicators
HBOT combined with conventional therapy can significantly increase arterial oxygen partial pressure in COPD patients, reduce carbon dioxide partial pressure, and improve overall oxygenation. This improvement is more significant than medication alone.
| Indicator | Conventional Drug Therapy | HBOT Combined Therapy | Direction of Change |
| Overall Efficacy Rate | Approximately 83% | Approximately 98% | HBOT combined superior |
| FEV1 (Core Lung Function) | Improved after treatment | More significant improvement after treatment | HBOT combined superior |
| Arterial Oxygen Partial Pressure | Increased after treatment | More significant increase after treatment | HBOT combined superior |
| Arterial Carbon Dioxide Partial Pressure | Decreased after treatment | More significant decrease after treatment | HBOT combined superior |
| Inflammatory Factor Levels | Decreased after treatment | More significant decrease after treatment | HBOT combined superior |
Why Choose a Home Hyperbaric Chamber?
COPD treatment is a long process that cannot be resolved with a few days of hospitalization. Management during the stable phase often requires oxygen therapy support lasting months or even years. Traditional hyperbaric oxygen chambers are mostly concentrated in hospitals. If patients want to undergo HBOT, they have to travel to the hospital repeatedly—registration, waiting, treatment, and returning home consumes half a day. For COPD patients with limited mobility, this cost is simply too high.
Kingshare, as an original home hyperbaric chamber factory, has over a decade of manufacturing experience, a self-owned production base of over 2,000 square meters, and products sold both domestically and internationally. From rigid chambers to soft chambers, pressure from 1.3 to 2.0 ATA can be customized. With no middlemen marking up prices, both quality and pricing are guaranteed.

Compared with traditional medical hyperbaric chambers, the biggest advantage of home chambers is the convenience of home management. COPD patients can complete ongoing oxygen therapy in their own homes without traveling in freezing winter or scorching summer, without enduring the cold hospital environment, and receiving stable, continuous rehabilitation support in a familiar space. The chamber is equipped with a high-concentration negative ion system, making every breath feel like being in a forest after rain, which has positive significance for improving respiratory quality. The water circulation heating and humidification system eliminates the dryness and cold of traditional chambers, making every oxygen therapy session an enjoyable experience. The BIBS mask system improves oxygen utilization efficiency, ensuring that every breath is an efficient oxygen infusion. The chamber can also be customized with red light therapy, which promotes cellular metabolism and accelerates tissue repair, working synergistically with HBOT on the body’s repair mechanisms.
We have abandoned the square, cold industrial design of traditional oxygen chambers and adopted a cute, rounded shell shape inspired by the Hobbit’s fairytale cottage. It is no longer a cold device, but a personal rest station for the soul. The warm, bright interior breaks down the distance between the device and the user. When a COPD patient steps into this little cottage, they feel not the pressure of treatment, but the reassurance of being gently enveloped. This positive emotion itself is the best adjunctive therapy.
Real Case: The Oxygen Chamber Becomes a Breathing Companion
A 67-year-old retired teacher from Australia had suffered from COPD for 8 years. In recent years, he could walk on level ground, but any incline left him breathless. Every autumn and winter, he was hospitalized at least once. Acute exacerbations caused his lung function to decline year by year. On his doctor’s recommendation, he began trying adjunctive HBOT. Due to limited mobility, he chose a home hyperbaric oxygen chamber. At 1.5 ATA, 5 sessions per week, 60 minutes each.
Week 1: He reported that his most noticeable change was less phlegm. Coughing was less strenuous, and his sleep quality improved significantly, with fewer nighttime awakenings due to coughing.
Month 1: During follow-up, his blood oxygen saturation at rest stabilized above 95%, nearly 3 percentage points higher than before treatment. He attempted something he had not dared to do for years: playing ball in the yard with his grandson. Although he still felt breathless, he could at least run a few steps.
Month 6: He did not have a single hospitalization for acute exacerbation throughout the entire winter. This was his first safe winter in five years. He said, “The hyperbaric chamber did not make me a normal person, but it made me feel like I am still alive, not trapped in this chair by this disease.”
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not a replacement for medication, but works in synergy with it. It acts on three dimensions simultaneously—anti-inflammation, antioxidant, and improved oxygenation—to secure longer stable periods, fewer acute exacerbations, and higher quality of life for patients. COPD does not take life overnight, but it compresses the space for breathing day by day. For patients, every smooth breath is worth cherishing, and every night without breathlessness is a gift.
